Coaxing the medicinal compounds out of our organic herbs is a precise and technical process.  For example, to extract the phenolic acids from our native Chamise, we must actively heat the herb in our apricot kernel oil.  This technique for extraction was passed down from the Chumash people to their Spanish conquerers, and was recorded in an 1897 anthropological survey.  With most herbs, heat is degrading to the fragile plant biochemistry.  It is essential to utilize the proper techniques to unlock the medicinal secrets held in our herbal remedies.

Chamise is a Southern California native plant and traditional medicinal for healing and nourishing the skin

At a crossroads of knowledge and information, we can find inspiration in historical writings and ancient teachings, and then cross-reference these traditions with modern science.  Published research in the journal Phytochem has shown that Chamise is rich in phenolic acids and flavonoids.  Flavonoids create the colorful pigments in plants, and are a class of antioxidant, or free-radical scavenger.

Separate scientific study has shown that phenolic acids have a strong effect in enabling antioxidant activity, link to the full research here:

Antioxidants, such as Vitamin E, are known to rejuvenate the skin.  So chamise, being rich in both antioxidant flavonoids and phenolic acids, when processed properly in heated oil, provides a combination of herbal compounds that work synergistically to heal and nourish the skin.  We are practicing the ancient art of herbal alchemy, working with plants to coax out their beneficial and healing compounds.

The quality of our skin salve comes from the ingredients, as well as how they are processed.  We use 100% fresh, organic herbs in all of our products.  Some Love gives the extra attention needed to grow our herbs from seed, so that we can grow our plants to produce the best plant medicine.  Lots of skin salves use comfrey in their formula, but how many grow it from seed, harvest it by hand, and infuse it fresh into apricot kernel oil?

Official comfrey, organically grown from seed, infused into our skin salve for peak potency.

Organic Ingredients- Fresh medicinal herbs infused in apricot kernel oil, avocado oil, evening primrose oil, beeswax and grapefruit essential oil.
